| LEGISLATURES ROLE: The
legislature is essentially the same as the congress in Washington. It
consists of two houses, a Senate with 40 members and the Assembly with 80
members. Senators serve 4 year terms and Represents the districts of nearly
750,000 Californians. Assembly members serve a 2 years term and represents
almost 375,000 citizens. The basic job of the legislature is to solve problems of the state by passage of laws through the appropriation of funds, and through the confirmation or rejection of the governors appointees. Legislation takes a variety of forms, but most measures become law only after they have been approved by both the senate and assembly and have been signed into law by the governor. information received from the Calif. journal's political action hand book. |
